Thoughts that floated through my head while reading

Posted on November 16, 2015 at 9:55 AM

Thoughts that floated through my head while reading "All Diseases Come from the Heart" by Heiner Fruehauf" during his lecture:

The diseases within the microcosm of the human body correspond to the macrocosm of human history.

As we forget how to age and die with grace in this contemporary world that worships eternal youth (e.g., look at China, a 5000+ year old country, trying to be like America, a 200+ year old country), our cells forget how to age and die, and become cancer.

When we industrialized our world, discarding matters of spirit in favor of Descartes' mechanized worldview in which everything is dead like parts of a machine, form/body (xing) became more important than spirit/mind (shen) in Chinese medicine. Or medicine in general.

GERD is Stomach qi forgetting how to go down. Kind of like a volcano eruption: magma forgetting how to stay inside the earth. Maybe I'm not understanding this correctly. Apparently you can descend Lung qi to help this too?

We are so ready to dig up stuff (I'm thinking of fossil fuels) that took millions of years to form, and use it without thought of how it might be replaced. Likewise, we do the same thing to our Kidney essence, accessing adrenaline by drinking coffee without thought of how to replace it (and prevent adrenal fatigue) by resting better.

Doesn't worrying so much about the qualities of the food/substances you put in your body tie your Spleen qi into impossible little knots? How then can one digest the expensive stuff we're consuming?
